High Hopes
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5: 1-4
We’ve all heard the words “Don’t get your hopes up.” In other words, avoid becoming excited at the prospect of something good happening in the future.
I don’t know anyone who is excited and hopeful about a trip who is happy when it gets cancelled at the last minute. What about the person who hopes for a job promotion but doesn’t get it? Getting our hopes up only to be let down is no fun.
I’ve said those words to myself and I’m sure I’ve said them to my kids. In fact, when it comes to my kids, If I say…” I wouldn’t get your hopes up.” What I really mean is, I don’t want to see weeping and gnashing of teeth if you don’t get your way.
The fact is, sometimes in life we are disappointed. In fact we can be disappointed so much that we feel hopeless. We get to the point where we are even afraid to hope. We don’t want to get our hopes up. Isn’t it good to know there is a hope that doesn’t disappoint? Putting our hope in God will never ever disappoint.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:5
Dare to get your hopes up! If you’re hope is in God, you’ll never be disappointed. I really hope you have a great day!
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.”
