God’s Perfect Love
Maria will still cuddle with me sometimes. She will get close enough to grab my face. She can see every detail…any wrinkle, line, or blemish. She has studied my face enough to know all the details. During church service a few Sundays ago, Maria was looking at my face closely and noticed a small hair coming from my chin. I would rather she not notice, because it isn’t very attractive to have anyone see such a thing, but she noticed and commented on it. Maria never would have known about that hair on my face if she had not seen it so closely. She would never have noticed it if she wasn’t used to seeing how it normally is. She noticed when there was a difference because she is intimately familiar with my face and in the habit of studying it. Maria reminded me about how God is intimately familiar with us. He knows everything about us. He knows my every thought, reaction, and intention:
Psalm 139: 1-6
O Lord, You have searched me and know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me
It is high, I cannot attain it.
Psalm 139:17-18
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand and when I wake up and you are still with me.
God knows everything about us, down to little lines on our face, and all the imperfections, including everything we think about, yet He loves us anyway. Isn’t it wonderful to be so loved?
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
