Broken Eggs

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.                                                                   1 Thessalonians 5:18

I pride myself on making great eggs. I know it’s not difficult, but I love and take pride in making the perfect over-medium fried eggs and giving them to my husband for breakfast. I also love eating them and dipping my toast in the yolk.

It doesn’t happen very often, but there have been mornings that no matter what I do, I break egg yolks. Sometimes it’s just one egg and I will make sure the broken one goes on my plate.  I hate giving my husband broken egg yolks- even though he really wouldn’t mind. He’s always thankful for anything I serve him. Honestly, He’s just thankful I made the eggs.

This morning, though, was one of those mornings I was breaking all the egg yolks. No matter what I did, I was breaking eggs. I even took the pan of 3 eggs I was going to give my husband and dumped them down the disposal because I just couldn’t get them right. I was getting mad, frustrated, and impatient. The more impatient I became, the worse they turned out. I was letting a few broken eggs ruin my morning.

The fact of the matter is- some-days we’ll have broken eggs. No matter what we do or how hard we try, things just aren’t going to go as we’d hoped. We can have all the right motives, the best intentions, and even follow through on the perfect plan, but things just won’t fall into place as expected. They won’t even come close.

During this season of broken eggs, God is showing me that I still need to be thankful in ALL circumstances. What good is it for me to just be thankful when everything’s going perfect?   Instead of getting mad, frustrated, and impatient, I simply need to have an attitude of gratefulness and thankfulness- maybe not so much that I broke the eggs, but that He is right here, in the middle of my broken mess.

What “broken eggs” situation are you learning to be thankful in?

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
