The Pit
Sometimes we find ourselves in a pit. No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to make our way out on our own. We didn’t cause it, we didn’t invite it, and we certainly didn’t welcome it. We are tempted to make a deal, devise a plan, or rely on our own strength.
What’s your pit? Anything from finances, relationships, and depression to grief, health issues, and everything in between, the pit can get you dirty.
What you do while you are in the pit matters. It is easy to become frustrated, angry, and even bitter with blame, questions, and complaints. The mud, slime, and debris can weigh you down.
The comforting news? He hears you cry. He knows your pain and He sees your struggle. You are not alone. He is in the pit with you. Recognize Him.
Sometimes God is simply calling us to be patient, stand still, and surrender completely and totally to Him. What does trust and surrender look like for you? The pit is hard, but the rock is firm.
The pit is hard, but the rock is firm.
Dear Lord, help me to trust you completely. I’m determined to wait patiently and rely on your strong arm to get me out of the pit. I know the pit is temporary. Today I choose to praise you because I know you’ll replace this pit with a firm foundation, a spring in my step, and a new song in my mouth.
I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.
