The Wrong Lane
We must pay careful attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1
Today I needed to leave work to go to the pharmacy. It’s liberally 5 minutes away. I found myself at the stop light in plain view of the pharmacy when I noticed I was in the wrong lane. I looked at the traffic behind me and realized it was too late for me to change lanes. There was too much traffic in both lanes to safely make the move without holding up traffic or cutting someone off.
I decided the best thing to do was to make a right turn. At that point I pulled into a fast-food restaurant right next door to the pharmacy so that I could quickly make a right turn to the pharmacy. To my chagrin, I realized I was caught in their lunchtime traffic and sat there and waited… and waited… and waited.
What was meant to be a 10-minute trip to the pharmacy ended up taking a half hour just because I hadn’t been paying attention and got myself into the wrong lane. I could have saved so much time, frustration, and waiting had I been paying attention and been in the correct lane to begin with.
I truly had no one to blame but myself.
Sometimes in life I think we all get in the wrong lane. We go about our daily routine. Everything seems to be going smoothly and suddenly one day wake up and realize we’ve gotten off track. We weren’t paying close attention. The normalcy of routine makes it easy to get our eyes on everything but the road.
The wrong lane led to the wrong road. A few bad decisions later and we’re way off course.
As always, though, God is always there, trying to get us back on track with the gentle reminder that it never had to be that way.
We must pay careful attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1
