A Season of Waiting
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:27-34)
In our business, we’re in a season of waiting. At this point it seems like forever. We are waiting & seeking God for answers, wisdom, and provision. The longer we wait, the more I’m tempted to worry. I also tend to try to take matters into my own hands.
Recently, though, as I’ve been seeking God’s word, I re-read my favorite part of Matthew 6. When I got to the scripture “But seek first”, The Lord spoke to me in such a real way. He said “Are you seeking me first or the answer first? Are your eyes on me or the situation? Where do I fit in?”
I felt certain He was saying that it’s great that I’m seeking Him for answers, wisdom, and provision, but am I really placing Him and everything He wants me to do for Him first as I wait?
I guess If He had to ask, the answer would have to be no.
Sometimes we all get caught up in the things of the day. There are so many legitimate and important things in our daily lives we can get focused on that need our attention. There is nothing, though, that is more important than God and forwarding His kingdom. It really put things in perspective and reminded me how small this situation really is. My ultimate focus needs to start and end with “His Kingdom and righteousness.” As I do that, everything else will fall into place just as it should.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:33-34)
